projects / wyly theatre analysis

The Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre (OMA/REX) questions the notion of the traditional performance space by arranging its programmatic elements vertically, rather than horizontally, above a completely open stage plane at ground level. The suspended structure allows seating components to be lifted and lowered, transforming the stage layout into idiosyncratic configurations specific to each performance.

This analysis translates the primary structural components into an abstract, yet physical model, clearly defining the conceptual intent and the honesty of material.
